History

A. Davis Guitars was born out of San Diego, CA - home to Arthur Strum Davis, where he's professionally built and repaired guitars since 1978 and co-founded A. Davis Guitars in 1999.

Art spent 1986 through 1997 as an integral part of the Taylor Guitars family as a head luthier and builder. He honed his skills in the Taylor Guitars hey day and helped revolutionize the industry with a new approaches towards crafting acoustic guitars.

More focused on his own theories regarging guitar building, Davis leveraged his artistry and knowledge of the craft and began his journey down the solo road by opening The Guitar Factor in the late nineties, specializing in what eventually became A. Davis Guitars.

Obsessive in his attention to the details of guitar building, Art Davis set his sites on making the best all around and "player friendly" acoustic guitars on the market.

"When it comes to luthiery, I put the guitar and the player first - period," says Davis. "The difference between myself and others is that I'm designing a product system to accept changes in design or process immediately."

"Stupid-simple, yet incredibly beautiful at the same time," A. Davis Guitars accentuate the virtues of various wood combinations while minimizing their limitations. A. Davis Guitars implements a precise method and crafts our guitars the same way each time, while using various woods to give every creation its own unique quality.

"The lightness in construction gives my guitars their warmth and liveliness," noted Art. "It's the precedent setting top bracing that provides their punch and sustain."

"The gentle curves, well-proportioned bodies and neck angle geometry create the balance of volume, tone and strength. I've found a way to do all of this without compromise; something I never thought could be done."

For A. Davis Guitars, the quest for perfection continues. Along the way there's a confidence the quality, tonality and longevity of these high-end acoustic guitars will make believers out of those unfamiliar with his revolutionary methods.

Or to simply paraphrase Art in his own unique terms - "It's not hand-built, but who-built… or more appropriately, how-built."
