Art Davis Shapes Guitar Building Experience
Into Solo Act

SAN DIEGO, CA - December 11, 2001 - There comes a day in every artist's career when it is time to launch the highly anticipated solo project. For a former Taylor Guitars luthier, that time has finally come.

Arthur Strum Davis has been building and repairing guitars since 1978 and spent the late eighties through mid-nineties as part of the Taylor Guitars family. As a leading luthier at the company, he honed his skills while helping revolutionize the industry with new approaches to acoustic guitar building.

More focused on his own theories of guitar making, Davis leveraged his artistry and knowledge of the craft and began his journey down the solo road by opening The Guitar Factory, specializing in the A. Davis Series. Obsessive in his attention to the details of making guitars, Davis has set his sites on making the best all around and "player friendly" acoustic guitars on the market.

"When it comes to luthiery, I put the guitar and the player first - period," said Davis. "The difference between myself and others is that I'm designing a production system to accept changes in design or process immediately. Stupidly simple, yet incredibly beautiful at the same time."

Davis' guitars accentuate the virtues of various wood combinations while minimizing their limitations. He uses a precise method and builds his guitars the same way each time, while using different woods to make every creation unique.

"The lightness in construction gives my guitars their warmth and liveliness," noted Art. "It's the precedent setting top bracing that provides their punch and sustain. The gentle curves, well-proportioned bodies and neck angle geometry create the balance of volume, tone and strength. I've found a way to do all of this without compromise; something I never thought could be done."

For Art Davis, the quest for perfection will continue. Along the way he is confident the quality, tonality and longevity of his guitars will make believers out of those unfamiliar with his revolutionary methods. Or to paraphrase Art in simpler terms:

"It's not hand-built, but who-built - or more appropriately, how-built."
